# Explain Repo in a Tweet - ShipDocs

> One tweet (≤240 chars) or a 4-tweet thread that explains what any public repo actually is - based on the real code, not the README. Free, no signup.

**URL:** https://shipdocs.sh/tools/tweet

## What it produces

Two formats, your choice:

- **Short** - one tweet, ≤240 characters. A single sentence that tells a developer what this repo is and why they'd care.
- **Long** - a 4-tweet thread: hook, what it does, how it works, who it's for / what's interesting.

Both are grounded in the actual source files (entry points, manifests, key modules) - not the upstream README, which is often stale or marketing-y.

## How it works

1. You paste a public repo URL.
2. ShipDocs's indexer reads the file tree, manifests, and a sampled cross-section of source files.
3. An LLM produces a tweet or thread using only signals derived from real code.
4. You copy and post.

## Use cases

- **Sharing OSS finds** on X / Mastodon / LinkedIn without writing the post yourself.
- **Internal release notes** - explain a new internal repo to teammates in one paragraph.
- **Briefing non-engineers** - explain what a repo does at a tweet's level of detail.

## Limits

- Public repos only.
- For per-component documentation, AI chat over your code, and private-repo support, use the full ShipDocs product: https://shipdocs.sh/.

## Pricing

Free. No signup, no credit card.
